Virtual Turkey Trot Run - An Idea to Benefit The Hungry
Grab Your Runner Bib, Donate to Long Island Cares, Share Stories & Pics
LONG ISLAND, NY, November 22 – Running events have crowded Long Island, but there’s a new run providing food for thought – A Virtual Turkey Trot. The “Virtual Run” allows a runner to get creative, get fit, and give a little to fellow Long Islanders in need. Runners will don a running bib, run their course, upload pictures and stories, and feel good in more ways than one. Funds will be collected by Long Island Cares, Inc. – The Harry Chapin Food Bank for feeding those in need.
On event day, November 25th, runners will be taking it to the streets, parks, beaches, and even treadmills for Long Island Cares. They will join others across our Island to join forces for a meaningful cause on a meaningful day. World Run Day, helping to coordinate the event, expects runners to be creative and provide meaningful quotes and stories throughout the day.
Robin Amato, Development Director of Long Island Care hopes the runners will “enjoy the day and see their donations go to good use on this Thanksgiving Day holiday.” The Harry Chapin Food Bank is Long Island’s first food bank and one of the region’s most comprehensive hunger assistance organizations. Founded in 1980 by the late singer, songwriter and social activist Harry Chapin the organization provides nutritional food and support services for a network of more than 560 community-based member agencies including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, child care programs, senior nutrition sites, veteran’s services and more.
