World Run Day - London p2
Success
in London! Event raises over £6,000
- almost double last year's amount... |
By Bill McDermott
Much effort paid off for the Rainforest UK... a clubhouse was transformed into
a makeshift changing room, tents and portable potties were placed in strategic
locations... leaves were carefully raked in the 50 yards leading to the finish...
It was all done the day before the event - with a lunchtime reward waiting
for us at the Crown Pub on a nearby roundabout.
From my perspective, as a racer on the course, there was plenty of water, lots
of running room, and a very runner-friendly atmosphere. It was advertised as
a fun-run, but also had the support of some top local runners in the area. A
perfect recipe.
As I was ready to leave to catch my plane, Rob Daly surprised me with a bottle
of champagne! World Run Day was a great success in London, but I could only
share the champagne with the likes of Rob, Ambika, Simon, and certainly Tim
-- and all of the many volunteers they had. I'll store the champagne for our
next meeting.
A hearty CHEERS! to my new friends in London.
