Join the Movement: Run for LA!
Be part of an incredible journey to rebuild and support Los Angeles with Run for LA, a Virtual Run bringing together runners from across the USA—and potentially, the world.
Our mission is reflected in the inspiring image below: the names of 5,000 participants (5K) symbolizing the power of unity, a vibrant abstract of the iconic LA skyline, and the heartfelt community efforts showcased on our registration site: American Red Cross, United Way of Greater Los Angeles, and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
As a proud California native with deep ties to both Los Angeles and the Bay Area, Bill McDermott shared, “I’m passionate about giving back to the communities that shaped me.” Inspired by the devastating impact of fires featured on NBC4 LA, and fueled by the vision of creating this Virtual Run, he was reminded of these powerful words:
“Make up your mind to act decidedly and take the consequences. No good is ever done in this world by hesitation.” – Thomas Huxley.

The Run for LA poster stands as a beacon of unity, resilience, and hope for Los Angeles. It symbolizes the extraordinary collective efforts of runners from around the world, united in support of the city’s recovery from devastating wildfires. This is more than just a keepsake—it’s a meaningful piece of history, honoring the contributions of every participant and donor. A testament to the power of community, this artwork will be presented to the city of Los Angeles and is available for every participant to download, frame, and cherish as a lasting reminder of their role in making a difference. An NFT will also be created for auction.
The Run for LA Virtual Runners Map is more than just a visual representation—it’s a testament to the strength and solidarity of a global community rallying to support Los Angeles. Every pin on the map tells a story of hope and action, representing the first runner from each zip code who stepped up to make a difference.
As the event grows, the map will evolve, showcasing not just the first participants; but the collective impact of everyone who chose to lace up their shoes for a greater cause. It’s a living symbol of how individual contributions, no matter where they come from, can unite us in a shared mission to rebuild and heal.
This map reminds us that every step we take brings us closer together, connecting communities across borders and inspiring change. Together, we’re creating a ripple effect of hope that spans the nation and beyond. Be the first in your zip code to add your mark and help us light up the map with compassion and resilience.
The vision behind this event was to create something truly groundbreaking—a moment where running and charity unite in a way that could leave a lasting mark on both communities. Rather than focusing on traditional rewards like t-shirts and medals, we set out to craft something far more meaningful: an indelible image that runners can look back on with pride, knowing they made a real impact.
This isn’t just another run—it’s a chance to be part of what could become an historic event. Donations will be presented directly to the participating Los Angeles organizations and to the city itself, reinforcing the collective effort to rebuild and support the community.
Runners can choose how to commemorate their contribution: perhaps by reproducing the iconic image at a local print shop, framing it as a timeless piece of art, or simply pinching the photo on their smartphone to find their name among thousands. However they choose to remember, one thing is certain—every runner will carry the pride of knowing they were part of something bigger, something extraordinary, something that just might redefine how running supports the world.
